Kilkenny Academy of Dance

Kilkenny Academy of Dance, formerly the Forristal School of Dance, has been teaching in Kilkenny since 1989 and is known locally for combining high standards with a nurturing atmosphere. Gemma Grant and Finn Power, both former pupils, took over the school in 2016.

Classes follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus in ballet and modern theatre/jazz, alongside tap, contemporary, hip hop and pointe work.

The weekly timetable runs from parent-and-toddler and tots ballet through to advanced grades, with a Saturday programme and classes at two venues: the Smithland Centre in Loughboy and the Kilkenny School Project on Waterford Road. Adult ballet classes, workshops and summer camps are also offered.

Past students and parents describe a warm, family-like community that builds confidence, friendship and a love of dance, with regular exam preparation and stage shows at the Watergate Theatre.
