Yama Sui Shin Kai

Yama Sui Shin Kai is a traditional Shotokan Karate club serving the Waterford area, open to adults and teenagers aged 16 and over. Its name translates roughly to 'Mountain, Water, and Mind Association', reflecting a philosophy of strength like a mountain, adaptability like water and clarity of mind.

The club is affiliated with SKIF Japan through SKIF Ireland, so grades are recognised worldwide, and members train and grade twice a year under Japanese Senseis and attend seminars with Irish Senseis. Classes are led by Sensei Darren Fennessy, a 5th Dan with over three decades of training and teaching experience, and cover Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring).

Beginners with no martial arts background are welcome, training is barefoot, and tracksuits or leggings with a t-shirt are fine for first lessons. Members describe a welcoming, family-like dojo atmosphere with patient, knowledgeable instruction.
