Kenjutsu Sweden

Kenjutsu Sweden is a school for traditional Japanese sword arts located at Hornsgatan 101 in Södermalm, Stockholm. The school teaches Yagyū Shinkage Ryū Heihō, a living koryu tradition with over 450 years of history, as well as Yagyū Seigo Ryū Battōjutsu. The techniques taught derive directly from the methods used by samurai on the battlefields of the 16th and 17th centuries and have been passed down in an unbroken line of masters connected to the Yagyū main lineage.

Training is divided into two main disciplines: Hyōhō, in which participants practise contact combat with long and short swords to develop reflexes and explosive strength, and Battōjutsu, focusing on rapid drawing techniques with katana and wakizashi to train precision and fine motor skills. Training in jō (staff) also takes place, along with occasional elements from other styles such as taijutsu, naginata and zen meditation.

In addition to the regular dojo, the school offers seminars, lectures and consultations in areas such as samurai strategy, Japanese history, culture and classical Japanese language. New students are welcome to attend two trial classes at no cost before taking out a membership.
