Kibo Dojo

Kibo Dojo, whose Japanese name 希望道場 means roughly 'the training hall of hope', is a kendo club founded in 2009 on Södermalm in Stockholm. The club is based in Globala Gymnasiets sports hall and offers training for all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners with bogu armour. There is also a junior programme for children and young people between the ages of six and twenty, with separate age-divided groups.

The club celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2026 and over the years has built up an active international network with recurring visits from Japanese senseis and participation in Swedish championships. Members have won gold at SM and the club organises its own competitions such as Stockholm Kendo Open and Hoku Tozai Taikai.

Beginners register their interest via a form on the website and are then contacted ahead of the next term's start. Training is term-based and the schedule varies depending on the season, with summer training held at alternative halls around Stockholm. The website is bilingual with information in both Swedish and English, and there is also a dedicated page for international visitors.
