Sjöstaden Kajak

Sjöstaden Kajak is a kayaking operation located at Hammarbybacken in southern Stockholm, with direct access to the waters around Sickla and Järla sjö, the inner archipelago, and Lake Mälaren. The operation is run as part of weXplore Outdoor & Friskvård and offers kayak hire, SUP hire, guided tours, and structured courses for those wishing to develop their paddling skills.

The course programme is built around an in-house system called Kajakcertifikatet, launched in 2011 and integrated with the European Paddle Pass (EPP). Instruction takes place in small groups of no more than four participants per instructor and is tailored individually regardless of prior experience. Courses are conducted in Swedish or English depending on participants' preferences, and each course participant receives course materials in a waterproof ring-binder system.

Alongside the operation at Hammarbybacken, there is also a test centre at Strömma kanal as well as activities at Djurönäsets äventyrscenter in the archipelago, where visitors can, among other things, hire a kayak for independent paddling or join guided archipelago tours. Self-service hire is available Monday to Sunday during the high season.
