QueerSalsa Stockholm

QueerSalsa Stockholm is a dance school on Södermalm offering salsa and bachata from a norm-creative perspective — everyone learns both to follow and to lead, and everyone dances with everyone. The courses run as 7-week cycles on Mondays and Wednesdays in collaboration with ABF Stockholm, and range from beginner to advanced level. Specific classes include QueerSalsa GRUND, QueerRueda FORTS, QueerRueda AVANCERAD, SchlagerBögBachata ALL LEVELS, BögBachata FORTSÄTTNING and BögBachata Show Team.

The atmosphere is community-oriented, with space for conversation and reflection on dance norms. The groups are teacher-led by Peter Helm and Johan Björk, and the premises are located at Närkesgatan 1 near Nytorget. What sets QueerSalsa Stockholm apart is the combination of queer feminism and dance instruction — including a world-unique show team and its own role-switching turns in rueda.
