Bristol Contact Improvisation Dance

Bristol Contact Improvisation is a community hub for Contact Improvisation (CI) dance in Bristol and the South West. Founded on the principles developed by Steve Paxton in 1972, CI explores how bodies move together through shared weight, gravity and physical listening.

The site serves both newcomers and experienced dancers, offering ongoing beginners classes, regular jams (1st and 3rd Sunday of the month), workshops, and longer training courses. Classes are taught by a rotating roster of experienced facilitators, giving participants exposure to different styles and approaches.

The form is open to all bodies and enquiring minds — sometimes athletic, sometimes meditative.
