Exeter School of Tai Chi - Old Town Hall

The Exeter School of Tai Chi Chuan teaches traditional Chen Style Tai Chi Chuan, a Chinese martial art celebrated worldwide for its health, fitness and wellbeing benefits. Since 2000 the school has followed the teachings and training methods of Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang, Head of the Chen Family, and more recently his nephew and Chief Coach, Master Chen Ziqiang.

The school was founded by Chief Instructors Tom Collingridge and Helen Kingdon, both registered as Advanced Tai Chi Instructors with the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain.

Weekly in-person classes are held at the St Thomas Centre in Exeter and cover a challenging mix of holistic exercises designed to build strength, flexibility, coordination, relaxation and balance, while training the mind to become calm and focused. Classes are open to all levels, including complete beginners, and private one-to-one tuition is also available.

The school additionally offers a free weekly session for those experiencing mental health difficulties, and reaches out to diverse community groups including elderly care home residents, people with disabilities and young people.
