Stockholm Zen Center

Stockholm Zen Center is a Zen Buddhist temple on Södermalm in Stockholm, with a focus on zazen – seated meditation in the spirit of the Japanese Zen tradition. Activities centre on regular zazen sessions, Buddhist teachings and ceremonies such as Vesak and full-day sittings (Zazenkai).

For those who are new, introductory courses of approximately four hours are offered, covering the basics of zazen, sitting postures, meditation practices and Buddhist rituals.

The atmosphere is quiet and traditional – the centre functions as an active temple rather than a commercial studio, with teacher-led sessions and a clear teacher-student relationship, including individual instruction (dokusan) and group lessons (teisho).

What sets the centre apart is its grounding in authentic Zen Buddhism with teaching by Kansan Sensei, which provides a deeper context than ordinary mindfulness meditation. Suited to those seeking a serious meditation practice with a spiritual foundation, or who wish to learn zazen from scratch in a genuinely Buddhist environment.
