Tantobastun

Tanto Bastuförening is a non-profit association that operates a wood-fired sauna raft moored at Tanto badplats in southern Stockholm, on Södermalm. The operation grew out of a citizen proposal to Södermalms stadsdelsnämnd in 2015, and the sauna officially opened in the summer of 2016. The association has since grown to around 600 members and makes it possible to swim in Årstaviken year round, regardless of season.

The sauna is characterised by a stripped-back simplicity and an inclusive atmosphere in which respect and consideration are fundamental values. The venue attracts both members who have booked their own time slots and members of the public during open visiting hours. The association has an active anti-harassment policy and appoints safety representatives to ensure that everyone feels welcome.

Membership fees fund the running of the facility and also enable public access to it. Tanto Bastuförening is regarded as a pioneering project that has inspired similar initiatives elsewhere in Sweden. The venue combines a central location with a natural setting and serves as a meeting place for conversation and recovery.
