UCD Karate Club is the oldest martial arts club at University College Dublin, founded in 1977 and teaching traditional Shotokan Karate under the JKA tradition. Based at the UCD Sports Centre in Belfield, the club welcomes everyone from complete beginners to seasoned black belts, with separate beginner-focused instruction so nobody gets left behind.

Classes are led by supportive, highly qualified black belt instructors, and members also get the chance to train with top Japanese and international masters. The club trains three times a week (Monday and Friday 6-8pm in Hall A, Wednesday 8-10pm in Hall B) and holds grading sessions three times a year.

It is also a competitive force, reigning All-Ireland Intervarsity champion with four consecutive overall titles (2021-2024), plus UCD Team of the Year 2024 and the UCD Inclusion Award 2023. Open to UCD students, alumni and staff, with sister JKA dojos across Dublin for non-members of UCD.
